In a video shared on TikTok, it’s visible how Shamrock was different from her siblings after birth. Besides being slightly smaller than the others, instead of having the same cream-colored coat golden retrievers are known for, her fur color was green.
“Even though she looks different, she’s healthy and happy,” said Carole DeBruler, co-owner and dog breeder of Golden Treasures Kennel based in Pensacola, Florida, speaking to USA TODAY.

DeBruler, who has been breeding goldens for 17 years with her husband, shared that she has seen this happen before. “For light-colored dogs, it’s not unusual to have a greenish tint. But it usually happens right away,” DeBruler explained about Shamrock, who is now 8 weeks old.
However, she admitted that Shamrock’s case was a bit different. “With Shamrock, this didn’t go away. Her mom licked her clean, we bathed her, and [it] remained a bright lime green,” she recounted about the puppy’s fur.
Now, about two months later, DeBruler said most of the green tint in her fur has disappeared, but some green color still shows up when she plays in water and gets her fur wet.
